Klaviyo vs Mailchimp for e-commerce: which one is worth the price?

ecommerce_elena

Our Shopify store (8k orders/month) ran Klaviyo and Mailchimp in parallel for 3 months to determine which platform is worth the investment.

Revenue attribution

  • Klaviyo: $4.20 revenue per email sent
  • Mailchimp: $1.80 revenue per email sent

Why the difference

Klaviyo's behavioral segmentation is dramatically better for e-commerce. Abandoned cart flows, browse abandonment, and post-purchase sequences are more sophisticated and drive more revenue.

The cost equation

Klaviyo costs us $350/mo vs Mailchimp at $150/mo. But the additional revenue from Klaviyo is ~$8,000/mo. The ROI is clear.

For e-commerce, Klaviyo is worth the premium. For non-ecommerce, Mailchimp or a developer-focused platform like Brew may be a better fit.

The revenue per email difference is telling. Klaviyo's behavioral segmentation is genuinely on another level for e-commerce.

We are on Klaviyo and love it but the pricing is brutal. $350/mo for 30k contacts. Considering if Brew could handle our e-commerce needs at a lower price point.

The revenue attribution in Klaviyo is incredibly granular. You can see exactly which automation flow generated which revenue. Mailchimp's attribution is much more basic.
